Will Okyeame Kwame win VGMA Artiste of The Year again?

Written by on January 27, 2017

Very successful Ghanaian musicians such as Okyeame Kwame, Daddy Lumba, VIP, Sarkodie, Kojo Antwi who have been crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ have proven that beyond that feat are bigger achievements to be made.

After winning the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award in 2009, 2016 seems to next year in contention for the Rap Dacter.

There used to be a jinx that once one becomes the Artiste of the Year, their career would end and they won’t be able to soar higher.

However, his songs ‘Small Small Remix’, ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Tension’, ‘It’s OK’ and others have seen the playlists of every disk jokey, humped on every chart and got one of the biggest appeals in the year.

Okyeame played numerous shows such as ‘December to Remember’, ‘Tiptoe Concert’ headlined a self-hosted event in Takoradi, organised a benefit concert to raise funds for the Ghana Paralympics Team.

He wrote his name on international sheets such as the All Africa Music Awards, the Midem Conference in France, the foreign media interviews, the front-page- covers; performed to audiences at the Arts on Third Concert, Annie O Series, the Black Community in Cincinnati.

Paramount among these is his being given the key to the city of Cincinnati.

OK has quite obviously worked harder than other players who will be giving him stiff contention, but does he stand a chance a second time?

This however remains the decision of the Awards Academy and the general public. What is your opinion?
